He is a specialist in ecosystem governance, protected area management, environmental project coordination, and ecological restoration, with more than 27 years of experience leading initiatives related to biodiversity, applied research, land-use planning, participatory governance, and projects supported by national and international funding agencies and development partners. He holds a PhD in Biological Diversity and Environment and a Master's Degree in Conservation and Biodiversity Management in the Tropics.

Throughout his career, he has worked on the development of management plans, research agendas, environmental assessments, ecological restoration programs, and territorial planning processes in both terrestrial and marine environments. His experience includes coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing complex environmental projects, and facilitating collaborative processes involving government agencies, local communities, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.

His work is grounded in the understanding of territories as complex social-ecological systems, where environmental, social, economic, and institutional processes are closely interconnected. From this perspective, he promotes approaches that strengthen the resilience of ecosystems and communities while supporting sustainable development and informed decision-making. His professional interests focus on the interface between people and nature, recognizing that long-term sustainability depends on maintaining healthy ecosystems while creating opportunities for human well-being and local development.

He has published numerous books, scientific articles, book chapters, and technical documents on biodiversity, ecological restoration, environmental governance, sustainability, and protected area management, and has led the development of planning and management instruments for a wide range of environmental and territorial initiatives. His experience also includes sustainable tourism, visitor management, accessibility, environmental education, and efforts to address challenges associated with plastic pollution and other human pressures on natural systems.

He advises public institutions, development agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector partners on environmental planning, sustainability, natural resource management, territorial development, sustainable tourism, and governance processes.

Es una bióloga de la conservación con más de 27 años de experiencia en gestión ambiental. Posee un Doctorado en Biología con especialización en Ecología y además es PhD en Diversidad Biológica y Medio Ambiente.

Su trayectoria incluye la gestión y dirección de proyectos a gran escala, con énfasis en procesos participativos, manejo de conflictos socioambientales y educación ambiental. Ha colaborado estrechamente con instituciones públicas y privadas, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, facilitando el diálogo y la articulación entre comunidades, equipos técnicos y actores vinculados a la gestión ambiental.

Actualmente, continúa promoviendo iniciativas orientadas al desarrollo sostenible, integrando la participación de diversos actores y fortaleciendo estrategias de gestión y cooperación para abordar los desafíos ambientales contemporáneos.

Es un Ingeniero Naval especializado en embarcaciones a motor con cero emisiones de carbono. Ingeniero en Diseño de Yates y Pequeñas Embarcaciones por la Universidad de Southampton Solent, actualmente cursa una Maestría en Ingeniería Computacional Avanzada en la Universidad de Southampton.

His career combines innovation in naval design and advanced manufacturing with a strong focus on sustainability. His undergraduate research on a zero-emission hydrofoil fast ferry was refined in collaboration with his advisor and an external CFD specialist, securing a £1.7 million grant. In partnership with Chartwell Marine, this concept has evolved to the construction and testing phase, paving the way for large-scale production.

He also has experience in the manufacturing and customization of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) components, including carbon fiber parts for high-performance sailboats. His expertise also extends to the maintenance and repair of motor and sailing vessels, with a comprehensive focus on the structural integrity of composite materials and mechanical systems.

With extensive experience in coastal and offshore sailing, Anson has developed strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose critical failures away from port, bringing a practical technical perspective to the operation and design of sustainable vessels.

Isabela Tapia-Jaramillo, MSc

Isabela Tapia is a bilingual Galapagueña researcher (Spanish/English) with a Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation from the University of Southampton, England. She brings a global perspective grounded in local roots and has a strong background in multidisciplinary research, specializing in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data analysis, spatial planning, and participatory methods for environmental research.

Her experience includes the design and implementation of conservation strategies grounded in data science (ArcGIS Pro and R) and local knowledge, addressing issues such as human-wildlife conflict, illegal fishing, monitoring of key and critically endangered species, and biocultural conservation. Her work has directly contributed to environmental decision-making in close collaboration with institutions such as the Galápagos National Park Directorate and the Jocotoco Conservation Foundation.

Since 2023, she has been a consultant at Biodiversa Consultores, providing technical support to environmental projects with a focus on data analysis, natural resource management, and spatial planning.
